Film Synopsis |
From Teruo Ishii “The King of Cult”, Blind Woman’s Curse (also known as Black Cat’s Revenge) is a thrilling Yakuza film featuring eye-popping visuals, sensational fight sequences and the gorgeous Meiko Kaji (Lady Snowblood, Stray Cat Rock), in her first major role.
Akemi (Kaji) is a dragon tattooed leader of the Tachibana Yakuza clan. In a duel with a rival gang Akemi slashes the eyes of an opponent and a black cat appears, to lap the blood from the gushing wound. The cat along with the eye-victim go on to pursue Akemi’s gang in revenge, leaving a trail of dead Yakuza girls, their dragon tattoos skinned from their bodies.
A bizarre blend of the female Yakuza film and traditional Japanese ghost story, with a strong dash of grotesque-erotica (the same movement was a sensibility of Edogawa Rampo whose works were adapted by Ishii in Horrors of Malformed Men), Blind Woman’s Curse is a delirious mash-up of classic genre tropes, of which Ishii was no stranger, having directed everything from Super Giant films to Biker movies! – ArrowFilms
Audio/Video |
Audio Audio Language: Japanese The Audio sounds good for it being mono. Not perfect but pretty good, with a the Audio sounding somewhat thin sounding and a faint hiss is heard in the background.
|
Picture Quality Disc Format: Blu-Ray Looks Great with sharp details that get sharper on close-ups. The colors pop pretty good and black levels look good to my Eyes. The PQ is pretty Crisp with some grain which is good as Arrow didn’t over process this. I did Notice in One Scene near the 23 minute mark some weird black oval spots crawl up the screen. |

My Thoughts |
Blind Woman’s Curse Stars My Main Kick ass female Star Meiko Kaji and once again Kicks some ass in this film. Meiko’s Character is head boss of a clan with a dragon tattoo on their backs. The film is a great watch but it’s not the best but needs to be in your collection.
The film has a good story with great action that produces blood and deep cut marks. At times the film does feel slow and some scenes some what rushed but doesn’t take away too much in the entertainment aspect. I may go on to say this is filled with sword fights and what not but truth most of the killed subjects are unexplained and at times feels like a Horror movie.
Overall the film is a great watch that features good action and women slicing and dicing with a Horror aspect to the story. Like I said before the film belongs in your collection especially if you’re an Japanese film buff or Meiko Kaji fan, Pick it up. DO it
With that said I give the film a 4 out of 5 for great bloody content.
