Film Synopsis

The head of the Goldmoon crime syndicate is dead, leaving his top two lieutenants. Seizing the opportunity, the police launch an operation called “New World,” with the perfect weapon. The boss’ right hand man, Ja-sung (Lee Jung-jae, THE THIEVES), has been a deep-cover operative for 8 years, closely watched by handler Police chief Kang (Choi Min-sik, OLDBOY). With a baby on the way, and living in mortal fear of being exposed as a mole, Ja-sung is torn between his duty and honor as a cop, and the fiercely loyal gang members who will follow him to hell and back.

Using inside information from Ja-sung to damage the relationship between the two feuding contenders, suspicions grow that a traitor lives in their ranks. Ruthless Jung (Hwang Jun-min, BLADES OF BLOOD) escalates the game by hiring hackers to search the police database. As Operation New World closes in, and with the stakes climbing higher and a gangland bloodbath guaranteed among those that remain, Ja-sung makes a final, shocking decision no one could have predicted – Well Go Usa

My Thoughts

New World for me is great film that is story driven with lots of twists and turns and when you think its done the ending will twist some more. The film is slow and slowly builds in drama and action, but the amount action isn’t  a lot. When the action does come its fun and bloody with a crazy Knife fight in an elevator that left every one a mess.

Choi Min-sik! you know the guy from Oldboy and I saw the Devil? Well he did a good job acting and plotting the whole story but don’t expect him to be throwing down punches, come to think of it he doesn’t even fire a shot. Min-Sik Choi plays a the Chief of Police and even though he doesn’t have action scenes he was pretty good but wasn’t the lead.

Hwang Jeong-min Did a great job in the film being the main lead and his good and evil faces are great

Over all the film was very good in my eyes but I can see point where some may not like this as its slow and long, about 2 hours and 15 min with some fight scenes some gun battles and bats and knives and …other stuff  but I have to say the story is great and loved all the turns it took. Although not perfect, if you added some more beat downs  times 2 the gun battles it could  maybe be a 5 out of 5.

I give the Film a 4.5 out of 5

Should you get this? Korean film fan?  Yes get it.
Do you like Gangster films like long films like godfather but with a little less action doesn’t hurt you? Yes get this.
Min-Sik Choi fan? Yes why not, His role is big but his action on-screen isn’t,… not like old boy,  but hey… Get it
