My Thoughts |
The Bodyguard is a Semi Action Drama starring Sammo Hung. Sammo or should we call him Ding is a Retired CSB agent who is now elderly and going through the starting phases of Dementia. With a past that can leave a grandfather hurt he befriends a 8-year-old girl whose father is a gambling addict played by Any Lau. Andy gets into some trouble with the mob who intend to kidnap his little Girl but don’t worry Sammo lays down some finger breaking action.
The story itself was pretty good with Sammo’s character Ding in some what of a Clint Eastwood Grand Torino role, playing elderly early set dementia fat guy with some fighting skills. The movie is more of a Drama then action film with Sammo having about two fights which are good but still I would have preferred him not Fighting and make the film more of a Drama thriller. Acting wise Sammo does a great job in this role. The film provides some action, mostly drama but also a tad bit of Comedy. Don’t go in looking for heavy action, it’s a Drama film with a good story. We also get a decent bit of gore like a man getting his head smashed in by two hammers.
Overall the film was a good watch. I Just wish it was more of a Drama film on Sammo’s part and leave the action to Andy and the Police. Not saying His action was bad, it was good but for a better story it would have made sense for him to play a non action part with a tiny bit more comedy and a little more heavy dramatic portions that will get the viewers feeling more emotional. I would love to see more Sammo Hung starring in a full set Drama film.
With that Said I Give The Bodyguard a 4 out of 5 thinks to the story and me going in knowing this is not an action film even though its Marketed as one. It’s a Drama Thriller, give it a check and I hope this message helps you enjoy the film more.
