Film Synopsis

It is the deadliest weapon made by man. The mere mention of its name fills hearts with terror. Long shrouded in mystery, it launches from a distance and locks onto the target’s head, the internal blades decapitating the victim with the yank of a chain. A weapon of choice for elite fighters, the flying guillotine leaves victims begging for mercy.

A secret brotherhood of assassins – known only as The Guillotines – were once favored by the Emperor, but are now a force of terror and oppression under a new regime.  Exiled to a remote village and hunted by a squad of fighters with firearms that challenge their cold steel, The Guillotines must now outwit and outfight enemies from both sides.

From the director of the smash hit INFERNAL AFFAIRS and LEGEND OF THE FIST: THE RETURN OF CHEN ZHEN comes a brutal tale of honor, revenge, and the ultimate weapon. – Well Go USA

Audio/Video

Audio

Audio Format(s): Mandarin Chinese, English Dubbing  and both Formats are presented in 7.1 surround sound
Subtitles: English

Like a lot of Well Go USA films, When watching with The English Dub audio in some scenes Chinese Subtitles will pop up announcing a person’s name and or place with an English translation. But when watching with English subtitles those Chinese Subtitles will get an English Translation.

The audio itself is pretty good as it in HD 7.1 surround sound for both English dubs and The original Audio that is Mandarin Chinese. But its better sounding with Mandarin Chinese set.

Video

Disc Format:Blu-Ray
Video Aspect: Widescreen

The Video looks pretty good with good Blacks and vibrant colors but some CGI doesn’t look great mostly at the beginning when there is too much going on and in one point in that scene you can tell they are using green and or Blue screen. Over all its great looking and has great detail

My Thoughts

Hello Reader

The Guillotines for me is 50 /50 good and bad. First off it looks good and sounds great.

The film is more story driven that I feel is just too long and would have help the film some if it were cut 15 to 20 minutes, but don’t get me wrong there are points in the film where the story is good with its drama and score.

The action is ok with their being maybe 20% of the film worth of action maybe a little more with some scenes being  someone just getting shot, hanged or head being cut off. There is gore and things do get bloody and heads do roll. The Cgi Is ok but not great and feel it’s on the level of The man with the Iron Fist with it for me being 65% good 35% bad. There is no huge action scene at the end and with the biggest action scene being The opening scene and only time you see the Guillotine used in action.

I think the film may have gotten a better score, not by a lot maybe just a half a star more if the Title of the film wasn’t The Guillotines as you don’t see much of the weapon. This is not a remake of the Classic Shawbrothers film but just an Idea used from the older films and I feel for this movie to be better, they should have featured the Guillotine more with more history on the weapon and showing us a scene with the Guillotine being created along with why its being created. This film just throws it at us with a group of assassins who are all ready trained and ready to chop heads.

Over all the film is ok, It’s great to look at and to hear on a 7.1 surround sound. The action is just ok and the plot is also just ok and for me it’s not a repeat watch.

This film gets a 2.5 out of 5
