About:

In this bold thriller peppered with dark humor and interlocking mystery, an eccentric mountain man is on the run from the authorities, surviving the winter by breaking into empty vacation homes in a remote community. Regularly calling into radio talk shows where he has acquired the nickname “Buster” to rant about the impending Inversion at the turn of the millennium, he is haunted by visions of being lost at sea, and memories of his former life as a family man.

Buster (Rami Malek) was once Jonah, a hard-working husband and father whose job as the night-shift concierge at a hotel took its toll on his psyche and, consequently, his marriage to the sensitive Marty (Kate Lyn Sheil) until a chance encounter with a conspiracy-obsessed drifter (DJ Qualls) changed the course of their lives forever. As the solitary present-day Buster drifts from house to house, eluding the local sheriff at every turn, we gradually piece together the events that fractured his life and left him alone on top of a snowy mountain, or perhaps in a small rowboat in the middle of a vast ocean or both, in this visceral mind bender that will provoke discussion long after it turns your world upside-down.

My Review:

Buster’s Mal Heart is a Trippy Mind Thriller Fused with Dark Humor starring Rami Malek. Some say it has a MR. Robot Feel which to a fraction it does but does not involve hacking. It’s a pretty mid trippy film leaving you looking at different reality’s or different timelines that fuse together. The film is about a m an who works the late shift at a Hotel who slowly becomes crazy or is he? His plan is to make Money to move his wife, daughter and himself on a piece of land to live off it. Later in the movie a stranger, a crazy Obsessed conspiracy theorist played by DJ Qualls enters the hotel and hangs out with Buster. Some sad moments happen and Buster goes crazy. This is where w get different reality.. At One Point he is drifting on a small boat in the sea and at another he is a Drifter living in empty vacation houses on the run from the law. How does this End?

The plot was a fun follow and still at the end leaves you not knowing what happened, what was real, who was real, and does all the pieces fit in to a timeline or was it all in the head? The film brings a few dark Humor moments like Buster leaving a signature at every house taking a dump into a pot. Acting wise was top-notch and of course Rami kills the role as its kind of like MR Robot but with more character. I’m sure there are things in this film I didn’t see or understand but it was a smooth follow.

Overall the film was fun to watch and trippy. Makes you think at the end as you try to put the pieces together. I Enjoyed to movie even more due to the lead star whom I’m a fan of. Maybe it would be less enjoyable with out Malek but I think I would have still gave it a good rating. The film gets medium to High reviews. 6 out of 10 on IMDB and a 74% on rottentomatoes if you follow those things. Some reviews whom didn’t like as much wanted to compare it to MR Robot. It’s not but has some of the mind bending portions and a score that helps it also maybe a person who is not really there.

With that said I give this film a 4 out of 5. If you like mind trippy, dark Humor at times, Rami Malek, and ending that may or may not help you understand then you should check this out
