Synopsis

This dark, bloody, imaginative fairy tale about a camping trip that turns into deadly carnage draws on such influences as Lord of the Rings, Friday the 13th and The Devil’s Backbone. The story follows 12-year-old outcast Sam who, along with his troop of cub scouts and their teenage supervisors, camp in woods rumored to house a mysterious and deadly werewolf. Inquisitive Sam, certain the woods are inhibited by something evil, soon stumbles upon a feral young boy and, eventually, his evil psychopathic mentor. But convincing the others of the danger falls on deaf ears, and soon ingenious traps begin to take their violent toll on the group. A wildly entertaining “killer in the woods” actioner. – Artsploitation Films

My Thoughts

Cub is a Slasher like sleep away camp meets Friday the 13th meets Lord of the Flies. The Plot I thought was good and enjoyed how dark the film was. Lets say a ton of kids get ran over.

The film is about cub scouts setting up camp in the woods that has some bad stuff going on in it. The main kid is a troubled one but we never get hear about what happened in his life to be so troubled but gets bullied by other scouts and one of the counselors. He befriends a kid who lives in the woods who wears a mask made of bark but what he doesn’t know he lives with an older guy and they both kill people who trespass in the woods. Filled with traps and some electronics that single when some one is in the woods the film features a few amount of kill shots that are actually pretty good and look realistic looking. A few of the things that happen had me going oh and ouch but no jumpy parts, Maybe some will jump during a scene or two.

Overall the film was a fun watch but could use some more story, more death and perhaps a tad it more nudity. Wished they would have gave us the back story on the Troubled scout and maybe even some story on the kid with the Bark mask. The film has a cool score that fits and give the movie more tone and I did enjoy the story despite what other reviews say Which other reviews are all over the place with scoring from just OK to pretty good. I thought it was pretty good and hope they make another. With a run time of only 854 minutes I feel an extra 15 minutes would make this film even petty by adding back story to the main scout, one more kill with lots of blood and a topless shot of the female cook, We did get a but shot.

With that said I give this slasher a 4,5 out of 5 and recommend picking this one up and giving it a shot.
Side Note: The was the Directors first film and he has done a great job.

Note: I Know my speakers are way outdated. OPPO Blu-Ray Player is one of the best around and used in most home theaters. The Receiver is pretty good but on the line of out dated. Subwoofer is good with tons of bass but not the theater quality from a $400 Sub. Front speakers are fun with tons of power and are good for standalone’s but higher end sound (Hz) is lower quality. Overall I need to update on all speakers granted I do get decent sound out of them just the higher end falls short.
