| Synopsis |
Jack (Charlie Plummer) is a scrappy 15-year-old kid stuck in a small, run-down town. He’s got more problems than he can handle: an escalating feud with a violent older bully, a crush on a neighborhood girl, and having to go to summer school again. So when his runty younger cousin (Cory Nichols) comes to stay for the weekend, the last thing Jack wants to do is look after him – but no one really cares what Jack wants.
Called “a stylish, sensitive coming-of-ager” by Variety and winner of the Independent Spirit Awards’ “Someone To Watch” honor for director Felix Thompson, KING JACK is a tough and tender story of friendship, struggle, and finding happiness in rough surroundings.

King Jack is a Down on His Luck Bullied Kid who finds him self Movie. Jack who is called by Scab by most kids at school and who is bullied by an older kid. The Story flows with in a few days of Jacks life. His younger Cousin came over to stay a few days due to Family issues and Jack is to look after him. We look into the life of Jack and where the Bullying started, we see Jack pick on His Younger cousin some as well. The film gets more rough half way in with the Bully’s kidnapping his Cousin and Jack running away instead of helping out. We get to see Jack turn around at the end and How he and his Cousin have each others back
The story was good but also brutal at times thanks to the Bullier. The film is a Coming of age, teen life, love, and point to be made type of film. You feel sorry for the lead and you can understand the way Jack acts out. Now we don’t know most of his story as for his dad not in the picture but Jack has good memories of him as that is where his Nickname King Jack comes from. His older brother didn’t like that so he called him Scab and every one at school picked up on it. I would have like to see more story-line of Jacks brother and of his father.
Overall the film was a good watch. Like I said though it will get under your skin some due to the Villain of the film and the almost Killing of Jack. If you enjoy a coming of age or I should say a short coming of age a few days in a Life of a Teen who is going through a few things like, embarrassment, crushes, and daily teen life that we all have seen but maybe not as extreme or maybe even worst. Pick this up of flip on Netflix and check it out.
With that Said I Give King Jack a 4 out of 5. A Good film that I wish had more, More story and more character build up. But it’s still a good watch.
