About:

LORDS OF DOGTOWN tells the radical true story of three teenagers from California who took skateboarding to the extreme and changed the sports world forever. Stacy Peralta (John Robinson), Tony Alva (Victor Rasuk) and Jay Adams (Emile Hirsch, Into the Wild) are the Z-Boys, a bunch of nobodies until they join board designer Skip Engblom (Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight) to create a new style of skateboarding that becomes a worldwide phenomenon. But when their hobby becomes a business, the success shreds their friendship.

My Review:

Lords of Dogtown is a film based on a True story about a few kids who made Skateboarding what it is today. Starring an unrecognizable Heath Ledger playing a surf shop owner brings in the good Acting. The film follows 4 friends plus others whom take skate boarding to a new level. These kids are known as Z-boys. After becoming a hit and well-known, all the kids branch off leaving the old shop they use to represent to chase the dream and earn money leaving their friendships split but brought back together to help a dying friend live the rest of his life in peace.

The Story is pretty good and will keep you glued to the scenes thanks to the acting and drama and of course all the skateboarding portions. Acting was great and didn’t even recognize Heath Ledger as like most of his roles he goes 100% in on becoming that person he is portraying. The film does have some great high moments and low moments that will make you shed a few tears.

Overall the film was great, and a must watch in my opinion. The Blu-Ray coming from Mill Creek does bring in some extras. The PQ looks Good, but it does feel kind of grimy and dark in spots but I’m not sure if it’s the way the film is shot and can’t compare to and older release. The colors are good and its sharp at points.

With that sad I give this film a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Pick it up, it’s a steal at with Mill Creek Entertainment prices.
