Film Synopsis

Once proclaimed as “positively the most horrifying film ever made”, Mark of the Devil finally arrives uncut in the UK.

A bloody and brutal critique of religious corruption, Mark of the Devil sees horror icon Udo Kier (Flesh for Frankenstein, Suspiria) play a witchfinder’s apprentice whose faith in his master (Herbert Lom) becomes severely tested when they settle in an Austrian village. Presided over by the sadistic albino (a memorably nasty turn from Reggie Nalder), the film presents its morality not so much in shades of grey as shades of black.

Written and directed by Michael Armstrong, who would later penEskimo Nell, The Black Panther and House of the Long Shadows, this classic shocker has lost none of its power over the years – especially now that British audiences can finally see it in one piece. – Arrow Video

Audio/Video

Audio

Audio Language: English or German
Subtitles: English

The Audio is presented in its original soundtrack that is in Mon0, so you not going to get that full sound out of your 7.1 set up. Over all the Sound is clear in both English and German but at times the English sound seems to bassy, giving it a slight muffle sound to the deeper toned actors at the beginning.

Picture Quality

Disc Format: Blu-Ray

One Scene seems a little grainy but the rest….. Colors pop and flesh tones look great. The PQ is also sharp making every detail noticeable on close-ups.

My Thoughts

Mark of the Devil is A 70’s Horror film From Germany Originally called Hexen bis aufs Blut gequält (Witches Tortured Till They Bleed) and is filled with blood, burnings, Nudity, torture and Hot Chicks.

The film isn’t scary nor Jumpy but the horror comes from the Gore and Torture that makes you cringe at times in pain. The story is pretty good I think with evil men falsely accusing Witchery and other crimes so they can come ahead with pleasure or Money.

I feel this classic Horror/Cult film should be viewed by those who love old Horror films from the 70,s and 80’s that produces blood and pain. Its tongue ripping fun with great Blu-Ray Transfer and a fun torturing story (sorry I had to throw this in, its fun). Give it a shot

With everything said I give the film a 4 out of 5, But just a heads up it’s not scary as I cringe my teeth while I write this due to the guy I’m seeing now get stabbed to death. Damn you Devilish religion guy, Damn You

Note: I Know my speakers are way outdated. OPPO Blu-Ray Player is one of the best around and used in most home theaters. The Receiver is pretty good but on the line of out dated. Subwoofer is good with tons of bass but not the theater quality from a $400 Sub. Front speakers are fun with tons of power and are good for standalone’s but higher end sound (Hz) is lower quality. Overall I need to update on all speakers granted I do get decent sound out of them just the higher end falls short.
