About:

The life of a beautiful, young and pious woman is thrown into chaos when her parents takes in a dashingly handsome lodger. Having embarked on a torrid affair, the lodger goes off to Rome to seek a divorce from his estranged wife.

Unable to live apart from her beloved, our hero leaves home only to fall prey to the infatuations and lusts of a band of noble admirers, unsavoury criminals and utopian do-gooders…

The only feature Walerian Borowczyk (The Beast, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Miss Osbourne) made in his native Poland, Story of Sin transforms Stefan Zeromski s classic melodrama into a deliriously surrealistic meditation on l amour fou.

My Review:

Story of Sin tells a story of Sin and its in the Name alone. The film is plays like a romantic novel as a teenage girl falls in love with a married man. The Man runs off while are main female lead chases. After finding out where he went she moves in with him after he was shot by his teacher after a struggle with the letters both the teen and married man wrote each other. Later on he goes to roam with out her to get a divorce but is captured and held prisoner. Along the way are female lead commits sin after sin and becomes more and more. Like the falls ill but it’s not illness its a baby. After giving birth she throws it away in an outhouse. The story goes on as she goes out looking for this man again but is deep in a con with two con men where murder takes place. Does she find her lover? Does she get deeper into the committing Sin Game?

The story is good but it does drag out some. But it’s still interesting as are female lead Grazna played by Ewa Pobratynska gets deeper and deeper in sin after coming from a good family who were religious. Acting wise the film is good but for the lazy there is no dubbing for this polish film. The film also looks great on Blu-Ray, Sharp and colors pop. Sound Quality is also great.

Over all the film was a decent viewing but it can get slow in its 130 minute run-time. It’s like a romantic novel but the female lead turns to crime along her path to find and be with her married lover in a period peace. If that sounds interesting to you or you’re a Arrow Video or Arrow Academy collector then you should pick it up.

With that said I give Story of Sin a 3 out of 5. A tad bit Shorter run time, perhaps some more Nudity, and showcasing some gore which it has none, for more shock value and visually the film would be a bit better for me. Give it a check if it sounds interesting. It’s a decent film.
