Picture Quality

Disc Format: DVD

The Picture Quality is Pretty good when it comes to DVD. The Picture is sharp and colors look fine but of course Blu-Ray would make the Image sharper and the colors pop more. Overall its good with no distractions like crazy film grain or pixelation.

My Thoughts

The Great Hypnotist is a Mystery Thriller that can mess with your mind it times. The film also kind of feels like the sixth sense in away due to the plot. The film follows a nationally renowned therapist incredibly skilled in hypnotherapy Played by Xu Zheng. From the start of the film we can see how good he is with helping his patients as he shows it off in a class he is lecturing. Of course a movie wouldn’t be a movie with about a challenge. Another patient enters the picture who no one else can help, so he dives into this lady who may or may not be lying about the things she is seeing. Ghosts needing help? maybe, but everything in Xu’s mind is saying those things could have still worked with out a Ghost being referenced in the story.

OK I might have went in deeper than most my other reviews but hey its the story or part of it and for me I Think its pretty good. Acting wise all players involve do a good job including are lead Xu Zheng. Yes his last film to hit Blu-Ray was just OK with action and comedy but here we get a more dark and serious tone from him. He does a great job keeping you intrigued but of course the story itself helps.

Overall the film was a good watch and I recommend taking a check if your into mystery thrillers that mess with your mind at times. Now that I’ve Finished the film which I was partly writing this review during so. The film kicks it up a Notch with a twist and a turn that leads to another turn that revels itself. The ending ends in 3 parts. One with the Hypnotists doing their job, two its showcases all the things you missed while watching through a fast-forward from a different view and three being the whole story fitting and the person knowing what is going on after a few pieces you missed get connected. Loved the story.

With that Said I give this film a 4.5 out of 5 and I’m happy to put this one on my shelf. Only down side is that I wish we could have gotten a Blu-Ray Treatment. Add another twist and turn, more ghost story’s and we could have had a 5 star in my eyes. The film is a mix between The 6th sense, Inception and shutter Island. I might have said too much at that point so forget everything I’ve said, skip the review and go in blind. 1…..2…..3 Snap

Note: I Know my speakers are way outdated. OPPO Blu-Ray Player is one of the best around and used in most home theaters. The Receiver is pretty good but on the line of out dated. Subwoofer is good with tons of bass but not the theater quality from a $400 Sub. Front speakers are fun with tons of power and are good for standalone’s but higher end sound (Hz) is lower quality. Overall I need to update on all speakers granted I do get decent sound out of them just the higher end falls short.
