Film Synopsis

In postwar Hong Kong, legendary Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man is reluctantly called into action once more. What began as simple challenges from rival kung fu schools soon finds him drawn into the dark and dangerous underworld of the Triads. Now, to defend life and honor, Ip Man has no choice but to fight – one last time. – Well Go USA

Audio Format(s): Cantonese with optional English Dubbing
Subtitles: English

Over the sound is great but vocals are a tad low on original language at times and or background noise is a tad loud. The English dubbing is a lot louder and feels like it doesn’t fit as good as I would have wanted it. Bets watched with the English dub as I do with all my films.

Disc Format: Blu-Ray

The film looks great on Blu-Ray with sharp details and deep colors and blacks. Some scenes feel overly bright at times with a different color masking ( Ex. Below) but that’s just me being way to picky and most wont care as they are not into film production.

Theatrical release Date: March 28, 2013 (China)

My Thoughts

Ip Man: The Final Fight is a more story driving film compared to the other films made on Ip Man. There is action and the action is good with great Wing Chun style combat that is fun to watch.

Over the film was a good watch but I feel the story could have been better while taking out some scenes that are slow with a better action and or a dialog scene that would keep the viewer interested and not feel like the story was rushed at points.

The down fall of this film is that Ip Man films had been made before this and will always be compared to those. I can’t see Ip Man and an actor not Being Donnie Yen Playing the role, The man was made for it. With that said I’m not saying this film isn’t good because I did enjoy the film as we are taken on the path Of Ip Man’s life as he is now older. I haven’t done any research to see if the things shown here in the film run along side the Real Ip Mans story or life.

This Ip Man film is in a different time frame with Ip Man Being older and Bruce Lee being A Star. The acting is good the action is better but wish there was more.

Should you buy this is the Question. I say if you enjoyed all the Ip Man films then yes, If you like Bio like Films on Asian Kung Fu Masters, Yes. Looking for intense action with lots of hand to hand? I say it’s a no but be left out by not seeing the action this film provides because it’s still good just not a lot of it.

Cut 15 minutes or so from this film of empty dialog scenes add 5 minutes more action I would give this film a good 4 but with what I’ve seen here, I will have to give this film a 3 out of 5 …Its better than %50, still a good rating and I feel it does belong on your shelf if you love Asian martial art films. For those who are not big on martial art films I would say rent first.
