Synopsis

CHICKS IN CHAINS ON THE LAM FROM A PRISON HELL!

Before her iconic turn in Coffy, Pam Grier starred alongside Margaret Markov in a grindhouse spin on Stanley Kramer’s The Defiant Ones, fusing the Women in Prison film with the emerging Blaxploitation movement for a riotous romp of bullets, babes and blood!

Lee (Grier), a tough prostitute and Karen (Markov), a revolutionary, are admitted to a tough women’s prison where almost immediately (after some playful showering that prefigures Porky’s) they clash. Packed off to a maximum security prison, their transport is ambushed by Karen’s guerrilla friends and the two escape into the Filipino jungle. Chained together and with differing escape plans their clash intensifies as Lee wants to retrieve a stash of stolen cash to get her off the island and Karen wants to re-join her revolutionary group. Escape isn’t easy as they come up against a series of obstacles including a corrupt cop, a bounty hunter, a sadistic Drug Lord and guerrillas who threaten to turn everything upside down.

Chock full of girl fights, gun battles, nudity and humour, Black Mama White Mama, which was also known as Women in Chains and Hot, Hard and Mean, lives up to all its titles as well as featuring a brilliant Sid Haig (Spider Baby, House of 1000 Corpses) as a cowboy bounty hunter and Lynn Borden (Frogs, Dirty Mary Crazy Larry) as a lesbian guard from a script co-written by Jonathan Demme (Caged Heat) and a score sampled by Quentin Tarantino for Kill Bill. – Arrow Video

My Thoughts

Black Mama, White Mama is a female prison escape and free and or flee the Island sploitation film. The story is Not bad with Pam Grier teaming up with another female inmate who she hates to escape and run away to flee the Island while the white chick played by Margaret Markov wants to start a revolution to free the people on the Island.

The start of the film is all about the prison scenes and what we get is a ton of boobs and a sexual female guard who wants a piece of them all. Action wise the film is some hand to hand but we have mostly gun play which I think needs more action. Story wise it’s not bad and the and the acting isn’t that bad ether.

Overall the film was a good view not just because we had some nudity a few shower scenes were the girls are horsing around but overall it was a decent film with that female convict 701 feel at times. The film gets medium reviews I’ve seen some lower scores but for me this is worth the view

With that said I give this film a 3 out of 5 for nudity and violence but more action could have made the film better as half of the film was just the chicks running from the law. Arrow collectors, female prison films or Pam Grier fans I say pick it up give it a shot.

Note: I Know my speakers are way outdated. OPPO Blu-Ray Player is one of the best around and used in most home theaters. The Receiver is pretty good but on the line of out dated. Subwoofer is good with tons of bass but not the theater quality from a $400 Sub. Front speakers are fun with tons of power and are good for standalone’s but higher end sound (Hz) is lower quality. Overall I need to update on all speakers granted I do get decent sound out of them just the higher end falls short.
