Synopsis

THEY RE NOT STAYING DOWN THERE, ANYMORE!

From the subterranean depths it crawls! Finally making its long-awaited debut on Blu-ray, director Douglas Cheek s cult 80s favorite C.H.U.D. is the ultimate underground movie experience.

In downtown Manhattan, a police captain s hunt for his missing wife leads to the discovery of a series of mysterious disappearances in the area. Extending his search into the tunnels and sewers below the city streets, it soon becomes clear that something monstrous is lurking in that subterranean world and it won t stay there much longer…

Starring John Heard (Home Alone) and Christopher Curry (Starship Troopers) alongside an early appearance from John Goodman, C.H.U.D. has justifiably built up a huge cult following in the years since its release in 1984, with one of the most iconic creature designs of the period.

My Thoughts

C.H.U.D. is a Horror Creature Feature dealing with Cannibalistic Humanoid Under Ground Dwellers. A Photographer, A Cop and a Homeless Shelter Care Taker all have One thing in Common. They all stumble upon a secret being stored underground that is turning Homeless and underground folk into creatures. All Awhile Government and Local Town runners are trying to eliminate all the problems.

The story is a good follow, Nothing crazy and deep with a ton of Character building but a Story that has some depth and showcases a bunch of Actors you’ve seen before like Daniel Stern. The Gore factor is Solid with chopped up and ripped in half bodies but not super Bloody. Nude Factor is non but we had some chances of it but we didn’t get it. Horror factor was good, not scary but fun looking Creatures with a few scenes that hype a Thrill but no jumpy moments.

Overall the film was a good View, fun to watch and see Young Actors whom I’ve seen in newer films. It’s always fun to see that when viewing a first Time Older Horror Film. The film Makes me want to go pick up the Sequel and add to my collection. Changes I would loved to see would maybe be a Boob or Two and come to think about it we didn’t really see the creatures making a mess of People we only seen the aftermath, so that would have made this a better viewing.

With that said I give C.H.U.D. a 4 out of 5 for its fun entertainment factor with good horror feeling. Give a pick up Horror fans and Arrow Video Collectors.

Note: I Know my speakers are way outdated. OPPO Blu-Ray Player is one of the best around and used in most home theaters. The Receiver is pretty good but on the line of out dated. Subwoofer is good with tons of bass but not the theater quality from a $400 Sub. Front speakers are fun with tons of power and are good for standalone’s but higher end sound (Hz) is lower quality. Overall I need to update on all speakers granted I do get decent sound out of them just the higher end falls short.
