Film Synopsis

When Sergio Leone turned Lee Van Cleef into a major star with For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, the actor sensibly stayed in Italy to make several more spaghetti westerns, including this one from Leone’s former assistant Tonino Valerii that genre aficionados rank amongst the best ever made.

Giuliano Gemma plays street cleaner Scott Mary, relentlessly bullied by the people of the small town of Clifton. When legendarily ruthless master gunfighter Frank Talby (Van Cleef) rides into town, Scott seizes the opportunity to lift himself out of the gutter, and possibly even surpass Talby’s own skills. But what is Talby doing in Clifton in the first place?

This lively, intelligent western, notable for the chemistry between its charismatic leads, some memorable action set-pieces (including a rifle duel on horseback that has to be seen to be believed), and a jazzy Riz Ortolani score, is presented here in an exclusive high-definition restoration from the original Techniscope negative. – Arrow Video

Audio/Video

Audio

Audio Language: English or Italian
Subtitles: English

The Audio is clear and Deep when it needs to be. Overall the sound quality is pretty good and probably the best you might get when it comes to Mono sound but it doesn’t fill the room and the audio though not really noticeable but when paying attaching you will hear audio pops a few times in the film

Rating:4 stars

Picture Quality

Disc Format: Blu-Ray

The PQ is gritty but when close-ups happen , wow how sharp it is. Colors pop, black levels are good and details are easily seen. Pretty good-looking for an older film.

My Thoughts

Day of Anger is a Spaghetti Western filmed in Italy that has a good story, A guy getting shot in the face, lots of gun shots, horses, and a guy who gets picked on by an entire town because he is a bastard who cleans the town taking shit from every town member both Literally and vocally.

Things changed when a Gunslinger enters the town and show this kid the ropes. The Name Day of Anger I’m assuming comes from how the kid Scott acts after he gets his first gun as he seems he is always angry. The film comes to us in both DVD and Blu-Ray packed in one box with 3 versions of the film to choose from. The Cut English version or the other Italian version by the title – I giorni dell’ira that comes with English and Italian Dubbing.

Overall the film I feel is fun to watch in the Longer version. Lee Van Cleef was great to watch but Giuliano Gemma who Plays Scott was just as good. This film may only get an average rating of 3.5 out of 5 but for more its more, Maybe due to watching the Longer version. Of course there could be improvements like Gun Training for Scott. Somehow he is good, yes he fast from practicing with a wooden gun for a long time but kid never shot one or killed a man before.

With all that said, I would say if you’re a Western fan, Lee Van Cleef Watcher, Gun play/ action/ good story or Arrow Video collector Check it out. Buy it, Tarantino puts this film in his top 10 Spaghetti westerns. I give the film a 4.5 out of 5.

Note: I Know my speakers are way outdated. OPPO Blu-Ray Player is one of the best around and used in most home theaters. The Receiver is pretty good but on the line of out dated. Subwoofer is good with tons of bass but not the theater quality from a $400 Sub. Front speakers are fun with tons of power and are good for standalone’s but higher end sound (Hz) is lower quality. Overall I need to update on all speakers granted I do get decent sound out of them just the higher end falls short.
