About:

The early seventies were a period of remarkable activity for Robert Altman, producing masterpiece after masterpiece. At the time he came to make Images, MASH and McCabe & Mrs. Miller were behind him, with The Long Goodbye, California Split and Nashville still to come.

Originally conceived in the mid-sixties, Images concerns a pregnant children s author (Susannah York, who won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival) whose husband (Rene Auberjonois) may or may not be having an affair. While on vacation in Ireland, her mental state becomes increasingly unstable resulting in paranoia, hallucinations and visions of a doppelgänger.

Scored by an Oscar-nominated John Williams, with sounds by Stomu Yamash’ta (The Man Who Fell to Earth), Images also boasts the remarkable cinematography of Vilmos Zsigmond (Close Encounters of the Third Kind).

My Review:

Images is a Psychological Mind bending film that has hints of Psycho. The Film is inspired by films you have seen but more so about the Novel that is writing by are female lead in film and in real life also directs the mood of the film. Are Lead Cathryn played by Susannah York slowly starts losing her mind while writing her novel and dealing with her husband. When its at full tension are lead is seeing multiple imaginary people who may or my not be real. She starts killing off these images she is seeing and starts losings it a little bit more. Does she go off the rails and out of her mind?

The story was a fun follow and is a slow burn type of film. Yes we see are Lead slowly lose her mind and by the end its full-blown but in some of the people who are in her mind that are not real sometimes intertwined with the real people around her meaning at times you start feeling a little crazy. Acting wise it was pretty good including the young girl played by Cathryn Harrison and went by Susannah. After viewing the extras I found some cool little tidbits like All the Cast in this film use real names but switch names with each other which is different and had to be confusing at times while filming. Also like I said Above are female lead is a Novelist writing a book through out the film but in fact that lead has actually has written that book which also played a role in the film.

Over all the film was a good watch and if your into mind twisting Psycho like films that deal with someone losing their mind then this one might be for you.

With that said I give this film a 4 out of 5 stars. Give it a Shot
