My Thoughts |
Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine is A Documentary on The Life of Matt Shepard who was Brutally beaten and Killed for being gay. The Docu opens up telling the story of Matt’s life from childhood to Adulthood, How Happy and upbeat he was to the darkest times in his life. We are also presented with Video and Photos of Matt throughout. The Interviewer is Matt’s Best Friend and at one point she breaks down toward the end while giving an interview.
The Docu is a great watch in-which does make you happy but also gets you sad and Angry. The hate and The Hate that can bring death is upsetting to the point it doesn’t make sense. 45 minutes of the Documentary is about Matt’s life and 45 Minutes is about the day he was beating and left for dead lied to a fence in a field. We also get to see the outcome and how wide-spread the news went to how many people were upset over this Hate Crime. Another aspect we are shown are the two guys who have done the crime with a little bit of back story. One thing I wish they extended in this Docu would be more on the Two guys who have killed Matt, perhaps an interview if Possible but I understand that the interviewer would not be able to handle that.
Overall the Docu was a good watch, learning about Matt’s life and what his death brought to the Gay community with Bills passed in Matt’s Name. Its sad but still interesting to view as You learned who Matt was and where this kid has been which was all over the world. I would say give this Docu a shot and pick it up or check you cable provider to see if it’s on VOD as it is a LOGO film and they own a Channel on Cable.
With that said I give this Docu a 4.5 out of 5.
