About:
Field stars as Lilah Krytsick, a New Jersey housewife and mother who desperately wants to make it big as a comedienne. Hanks plays Steven Gold, a self-centered Lenny Bruce-type who’s been stealing the spotlight with his irrepressible, natural comedic talent. Drawn to one another, Steven helps the stumbling Lilah turn her routine from flat to funny, while Lilah helps Steven keep his anguished life together.
My Review:
Punchline is a Drama Comedy about two comics who are trying to make it. At first You think this is a Tom Hanks film, It starts off with him, It shows how good if not he is the best comic in the bunch, A Medic Student who just got kicked out for not taking things to serious. Why? He is to busy killing it at the Comedy club. On The other side of things we have Sally Field, a Stay at home mom, Wife who is just starting into the Comedy world and in fact has spent her going away money on Jokes. The Film Quickly becomes a Sally Field movie for me but with Tom Also leading at times. Tom’s Character whom is a Dick takes Sally’s Character under his wings and shows her how good she is….With out telling other people’s jokes she had payed for.
The story was pretty good and is my first time viewing this film. For me the Stand out was Sally Field but Tom Hanks brings something different here we don’t see much and that’s him being on the more assholeish side. The whole comedy portion on how the comics are trying make it and get loughs was good, But the whole bit of Sally’s life was the best part. Here family life was a fun follow with John Goodman being a good fit. They had there ups and downs but in the end the movie makes you feel good at what those two have. Acting wise the film was great.
Overall I have to say I enjoyed the film. It gets medium reviews but for me its a Must viewing if your a Tom Hanks Fan and or A Sally Field fan. Go pick it up
With that said I give Punchline a 4.5 out of 5. Yes granted it may not be the best standup punchlines and for Me Tom’s Jokes were not all that funny when he was on stage. Sally Crushed it. But the whole overall story and feeling you get makes it what it is.
