Skating to New York is a fun little film to watch that deals with 5 friends, two of which are brothers who some have family issues and one of the five kids has hart issue that really isn’t big in the story which I thought would come up more than just the one time the boys were talking about it. After a few of the kids that are going through some issues they all meet up at the lake after the hokey game as they always do and they all decide to skate across Lake Ontario to New York just to do it and to get their minds off of family. Most of the film center on the kids journey across the lake where they run into a few issues but also you see the kids bond and learn about what has gone on in their lives.
I thought the film was a good watch but I think it could use more. The story could use some more focus on the kids and there problems before the day long trip across the lake so you can feel more for those kids. One of the Character you don’t get any back story on which would have been better so you would have known more of him as you kinda did with than other 4. Also the acting I thought was good and was fun to see Connor Jessup in a movie instead of just seeing him in the TV show Falling Skies
Overall the film was a good watch and I feel teens might enjoy the film. Yes the film could use more but I still liked it as it was a light and kind-hearted film. I give Skating to New York a 3 out of 5. Check it out, give it a rent. If the film was a little longer and detected that time on the 5 boys family issues it would have been a good 4 star if not more.
