Synopsis

The Color of Noise is a full length documentary about the Artist Haze XXL (Tom Hazelmyer) and his notorious record label, Amphetamine Reptile Records. Throughout the 80’s and 90’s the label would achieve almost cult-like status for being adventurous and daring in the midst of a time where “safe” punk rock would rule the airwaves with a newly accepted style of music by the mainstream college goers, Grunge. Though with AmRep, not only a roster of the most outrageous performers would find a home, but also a legion of poster artists who broke all of the rules.

Armed with a computer and an aesthetic of bold imagery, an artist would emerge in Hazelmyer. This is an American mid-west story about a man who created his own path, far from the norm and how he brought along with him countless others who would achieve greatness by sheer proximity and participation. This is the true American underground. Featuring over 50 interviews from across the globe, unearthed live footage of the bands and stunning visuals masterfully edited together resulting in one of the years’ best music documentaries. Premiered at Jack White’s Third Man Records and taken on a US tour shortly afterwards, The Color of Noise has gained the reputation as one of the most important films about the Noise Rock era.

My Thoughts

The Color of Noise is A Documentary on Punk Rock Specifically From this one Label Called Amphetamine Reptile Records (AMREP). The Docu gets into the Upbringing and start of the label and Most of the Bands who are signed by them. Mixed with Music, History, Art, and Story’s bring this Docu Together for a Good View

The Docu Gets into a lot including The Art work which I think was a pretty cool portion but also the finding, Singing and Touring mixed with the crazy story’s of drugs, sex and music. I Have to say This was Pretty cool watch even though I’m not Hard into Punk Music. I Found that I liked a lot of the Instrumentals playing but I’m not into the speed and not Knowing what the Singers are saying. One thing I found pretty crazy where how weird some guys are and how on point some of the Artists are when way to wasted on drugs and alcohol.

This Docu gets into a bit of every thing which makes this a good watch. If your into Punk, Music, Documentary’s or just want to learn new hings of subjects you don’t know about like Punk you might want to give this a shot. The Docu runs 2 hours long which I was dreading at first but once I got half way I didn’t mind as it was all interesting.

Overall I feel its a Good Watch, I did find it entertaining, I learned a few things about these bands, label, its ups its falls and My favorite portion the story on the Artwork. Give this a shot.

With that said I give this Docu a 4.5 out of 5. Good rating from someone who isn’t fully into Punk rock.

Note: I Know my speakers are way outdated. OPPO Blu-Ray Player is one of the best around and used in most home theaters. The Receiver is pretty good but on the line of out dated. Subwoofer is good with tons of bass but not the theater quality from a $400 Sub. Front speakers are fun with tons of power and are good for standalone’s but higher end sound (Hz) is lower quality. Overall I need to update on all speakers granted I do get decent sound out of them just the higher end falls short.
