About:

The swansong of the great Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini (La dolce vita, 8½), The Voice of the Moon emerged without fanfare: it played the Cannes Film Festival out of competition after its Italian premiere and failed to secure distribution in North America and the UK. This new restoration from the original negative seeks to right that wrong and provide the film with a second chance…

Adapted from a novel by Ermano Cavazzoni, The Voice of the Moon concerns itself with Ivo Salvini (Roberto Benigni, Life Is Beautiful), recently released from a mental hospital and in love with Aldini (Nadia Ottaviani). As he attempts to win her heart, he wanders a strange, dreamlike landscape and encounters various oddball characters, including Gonnella (Paolo Villagio, Fantozzi), a paranoid old man prone to conspiracy theories.

Concluding a career that had stretched back more than fifty years, The Voice of the Moon combines the nostalgia of Amarcord (the film is set in Emilia-Romagna countryside of the director s youth), the surreal satire of City of Women and the naïf-adrift-in-a-brutal-world structure of La strada. Plenty for Fellini fans to get their teeth into.

My Review:

The Voice in the Moon is an Italian Dramatic Comedy that follows Ivo are main lead whom just got released from a mental hospital. The film dives into to what is real and what is not as are lead try’s to win the heart of Aldina who he is in love with.

The Story is not a straight forward plot as we dive in a wold that we don’t know what maybe real the features odd characters as are lead wonders though out. Acting wise the film is good and the way its shot is pretty great. This film may-not be for everyone but if you’re looking for strange, odd and comedic plots I say you should give this a shot.

Overall the film was a good follow. It’s not best film but it hits the spot for oddness. I did find a good amount of the film to be funny, I did enjoy the oddity of the story line and what else shines is the way its shot, the set, everything just looks good. This is my first Federico Fellini Film I’ve seen and its his last made but I have a feeling if I dove into more of his work I would have a better appreciation of this on. Most fans of his love this film and those like me who are new have a medium view on it. From what I’ve read Fellini love creating non realism into realism pieces to create the oddness I’m seeing here. I Did love that and would love to see other films to see how far he takes it. The Blu-Ray looks really good with sharp detail and popping colors that bring out the old film into to the new.

With that said I give this film a 3 out of 5 stars. I say if you’re in the mood for an Odd dramatic Italian Comedy. Or just a Collector of Arrow I say go for it.
