Synopsis

HERE’S TO BEING YOUNG… STAYING YOUNG… AND DYING YOUNG.

Marking TV star Daphne Zuniga’s debut in a leading role, The Initiation ranks amongst the finest of the college-based stalk-and-slash flicks – now finally restored in glorious High-Definition!

Kelly’s new sorority has a special initiation ritual in store for her – an after-hours break-in of her father’s department store. But what begins as a night of harmless college fun turns sour when, once inside the enormous mall, Kelly and her fellow pledges find themselves locked in for the night… with a deadly intruder stalking the corridors.

Arriving in 1984, The Initiation might have been late to the slasher party, but, alongside the likes of The House on Sorority Row and The Mutilator, it remains one of the stronger entries to emerge in the latter days of the slice-and-dice boom.

My Thoughts

The Initiation is a Mystery thriller with a horror feel. Are lead suffers from bad dreams from a horrible past murder that she may think is real that involves her parent whom are telling her they are just bad dreams…or is it. On the same line she is in college and is involve with a female fraternity as she is one of a few who are close to becoming members. Another portion of the story at first seemed out-of-place but it involves a Mental institution that houses a killer who is on the loose.

The story is has several elements and plots the intertwine about 30 minutes in. Bringing more of the horror element when are crazy person escapes from a mental institution and go’s on a killing spree. Leaving are female fraternity exposed. The story gets deeper with are lead and her dreams as the movie runs and intertwines with the psycho killer aspect nears the end. The film involves a few chicks running around in skimpy outfits providing some teasing moments and some nudity. Gore wise we do get some bloody moments and some death scenes. Also the ending is a decent twist as I thought it was something different but I was wrong.

Overall the film was a good watch and probably one of the better horror films dealing with a Female fraternity even though it may have less sleazy moments and nude scenes. Add some more character build up, a boob or two and more blood and death for a better experience.

With that said I give The Initiation a 3.5 out of 5 thinks to the story and mystery on how all the plot points intertwine and end up. I Say go give this one a shot horror fans and Arrow Video collectors

Note: I Know my speakers are way outdated. OPPO Blu-Ray Player is one of the best around and used in most home theaters. The Receiver is pretty good but on the line of out dated. Subwoofer is good with tons of bass but not the theater quality from a $400 Sub. Front speakers are fun with tons of power and are good for standalone’s but higher end sound (Hz) is lower quality. Overall I need to update on all speakers granted I do get decent sound out of them just the higher end falls short.
