Plot

Jet Li weasels out of the north Shaolin temple to assassinate a despotic ruler at the ruler’s extravagant public birthday celebration. Two other men from the south Shaolin temple also set out to assassinate the ruler, but all three fail and are chased all over by soldiers. Meanwhile, one of the southerners turns out to be a cross-dressed woman, who is also discovered to wear a footbell to match Jet Li’s, meaning they are somehow slated for an arranged marriage.

My Thoughts

Jet Li and ….Shaw Brothers? Say Whaaat.

The film stars a baby-faced Jet Li in his 4th film and the 3rd film in the shaolin temple series. The film brought back shaolin to mainstream movies in the mid 80″s.

The film has a lot of action both hand to hand combat and weapons and is laced with  Chinese music through out the film. The action is good but most of it is out side of the shaolin temple as Jet Li’s character trys to assassinate the ruler  who comes out of hiding to avenge his parents death before he went to shaolin temple. Along the way he finds a few more fighters from another temple was trying to assassinate the ruler.

For me this was a fun movie and refreshing to see an old star look young again haha. There are mixed reviews on the film mine is on the higher side, maybe because I’m a Het Li Fan
