Plot |
Ip Man 2 is a 2010 Hong Kong biographical martial arts film loosely based on the life of Ip Man, a grandmaster of the martial art Wing Chun. A sequel to the 2008 film Ip Man, the film was directed by Wilson Yip, and stars Donnie Yen, who reprises the leading role.
Continuing after the events of the earlier film, the sequel centers on Ip’s movements in Hong Kong, which is under British colonial rule.
He attempts to propagate his discipline of Wing Chun, but faces rivalry from other practitioners, including the local master of Hung Ga martial arts.
My Thoughts |
Ip Man 2 is a bio film with awesome fight scenes that is a sequel to the first Ip Man. Nothing really to say. If you seen the 1st film then you know it’s about grand master yip man Bruce lee’s teacher.
The film takes a look at his family life and his struggles to feed them. He opens up a school to teach and earn a few bucks, but other masters who have schools want him to take a test. He has to beat any of the masters in a set time before the incense burns out without falling off the table they are standing on. That fight scene was my favorite in the movie, and is the scene where Donnie Yen fights Sammo Hung.
As said above the film is more about Ip Man and his family and their struggles to survive and through family is where Ip Man finds friendship in those who find Ip Man an enemy.
The story is decent, fight scenes are great but I feel the first Ip Man is better and not by much. What could make it better for me maybe a tighten story line and a better ending fight as it’s just like Jet Li’s fearless with out the hero passing away. But the last scene itself was the best and a good way to end it…..Enters Bruce lee
I give this film 4.5 out of 5
