Synopsis

In 1973, Ruth Norman, a 73 year old widow and self described cosmic visionary purchased 67 acres of land in the mountains east of San Diego, California as a landing site for the Space Brothers, emissaries from the Intergalactic Confederation. Nearly 40 years later, a group of dedicated followers still await their arrival. At the Unarius Academy of Science death does not exist, Nicola Tesla was a Space Brother, Satan drove a Cadillac and science fiction is real. To relive their pasts the students film their own sci-fi extravaganzas with the increasingly extravagant Ruth Norman as the star and the lines between fantasy and reality dissolve. Using spectacular footage from original Unarius films and Hollywood Sci-Fi flicks to illustrate, comment upon, and subvert interviews with the remaining Unarius students, Children of the Stars covers millions of years, hundreds of galaxies and dozens of B movies to present a sympathetic look at faith and how people justify it in different ways. The Picture Quality looks pretty good for DVD. Newer clips look sharp and colors look good but of course the older stuff will lack.

My Thoughts

Children of the Stars is a Documentary that is pretty far out there as it gets into a Science like Religious group that is not Scientology. What we get is the thoughts and teachings of its founders through older clips that will make go WTF. The subject matter is pretty odd as students are interviewed about what Unarius and Unarius Academy is all about.

We get interviews, odd clips from the 60’s and 70’s with its founders dressed up in weird get up, How People worshiped its Founder and how SyFy films impact its story. The whole thing is odd and crazy sounding and for me I believe that is what makes this Documentary interesting. Yes it’s not the a Great Documentary but still its worth a view.

Overall it was worth the watch and if your into wild tales like these worshipers believing in all the past lives they lived and how Martians once helped us and are soon to return then you should check it out.

With that said I Give this Documentary a 3 out of 5. Check the trailer and think about viewing this one for a weird ride in time.

Note: I Know my speakers are way outdated. OPPO Blu-Ray Player is one of the best around and used in most home theaters. The Receiver is pretty good but on the line of out dated. Subwoofer is good with tons of bass but not the theater quality from a $400 Sub. Front speakers are fun with tons of power and are good for standalone’s but higher end sound (Hz) is lower quality. Overall I need to update on all speakers granted I do get decent sound out of them just the higher end falls short.
