Film Synopsis

The three Bondurant brothers run a bootlegging operation during the depression, up in the mountains of Franklin County, Virginia. Crooked Special Deputy Charles Rakes is after a share of the brothers’ profits. Compounding their troubles, the local competition is elbowing in on their activities.

Forrest’s boisterous defiance and Cricket’s knack for moonshine production help the brothers gain a local monopoly. When Forrest is wounded as tension with Rakes escalates, Jack, initially the timid one, must prove his worth against gangster Floyd Banner’s mob, and we see him metamorphose into a cocky exhibitionist in his attempts to woo the off-limits preacher’s daughter, Bertha.

For me the film looked great with its dull colors of the time period and every once in a while you see color, When you do the see color it pops even more. The quality is great but not mind blowing.

My Thoughts

Lawless is a very enjoyable movie, well at least I think so, The cast did an awesome job. Shia LaBeouf fit the part pretty good and he is not like he usually is during films,A fast talking smart-alec.  Tom Hardy did the best job of the bunch I think, he comes in strong but soft spoken but you knew how dangerous he is throughout the film.  He takes a lot of punishment and keeps on walking, he also delivers some hard blows. Guy Pearce played a great good/ bad guy and by the end he made me feel like I wanted to kill him.

Lawless is not all action there are some shoot outs some guys getting there balls taking away literally and some brass knuckles smashing in a guys goiter but the film also shows brotherhood, Loyalty and standing up against the corrupt . The film also shows the bootlegging side but not a lot and I feel it would be a better movie if they would show more.

About 45 minutes in to Lawless you will get a jaw dropping moment and feel like well damn he should have lasted longer. I wont give away what happens but it made me go like whoa. I feel this is great film, not the best but enjoyable and re-watchable.  I give Lawless a 4 out of 5
