A late 80s video store staple, Rick Roessler’s SLAUGHTERHOUSE is a gleefully bloody San Diego shot slasher featuring atmospheric and noirish cinematography along with a generous helping of creative kills. Vinegar Syndrome proudly presents SLAUGHTERHOUSE in its North American Blu-ray debut, newly restored in 2k from its 35mm Interpositive and featuring the original Ultra-Stereo sound mix for the first time on home video.
My Review:
Slaughterhouse is a Gory Chop fest with hints goof and comedy. The film has a Leatherface felling in the setting and killer as the setting is in a slaughterhouse and the killer a mentally ill pig killer goes on a killing spree with his hatchet type weapon on a few kids and cops. Another Slaughterhouse is looking to buy out a mom and pop slaughter house that is going under but the owner isn’t having any of it as he set lose his Mentally ill son on trespassers.
The story was fun and at times had a goofy scene or two thanks to the score as it try’s to make it goofy or funny but overall still a decent film for gore fans who like chop em up films. Gore wise is good but at times you can tell its fake as blood seems a tad too thin but other times its fine, no nudity and acting is well its a low-budget film, it’s just OK on that end. The over all picture quality is good but grain is a tad heavy in dark scenes and sound quality seems good. overall the Blu-Ray does a good job on the sq and pq.
Overall the film was a decent watch as I do like these types of horror films as this one does give a Chainsaw massacre feel to it just with a tad more comedy. Now this isn’t a comedy but does have some. Are villain is a big guy who can’t talk but more so makes pig noises for some reason. It’s not a scary film but a slasher / gore film with out the jumps.
With that said I give Slaughterhouse a 3.5 out of 5. Slasher fan, Love gore? Vinegar Syndrome Film Collector? Then pick this one up.
