Synopsis |
HEY SHATTERED HIS AMERICAN DREAM.
In Pray for Death, martial arts legend Sho Kosugi (Enter the Ninja, Ninja 3: The Domination) stars as a family man driven to exact vigilante justice ninja style!
Japanese Restauranteur Akira (Kosugi) has taken his wife and two boys to the United States in search of a better life. But their slice of the American Dream is quickly soured when they fall foul of a group of vicious jewellery thieves. Unfortunately for the bad guys, they didn t count on Akira being a secret black ninja.
The samurai sword of vengeance falls swift and hard in this classic slice of 80s ninja action from director Gordon Hessler (Scream and Scream Again, The Golden Voyage of Sinbad), culminating in an action-packed showdown with a bodycount worthy of Commando.
Audio/Video |
Audio Audio Language: English The Sound Quality is pretty good with no distortions. Its clear and same goes for the Dialogue |
Picture Quality Disc Format: Blu-Ray The Picture Quality is Is Good and Sharp but at times seems soft possible due to camera focus. Colors look good as well as the black levels but they could use a tab boast as well. On a down note some scenes the cut out scenes are not remastered. So all of the cutting and stabbing portions switch to a non master version which kind of sucks. |

My Thoughts |
Pray for Death is a Ninja action packed film that deals with family and the rough streets of USA. Good thing are lead is a Ninja as some Mafia Type Guys do harm to his family and Now he has to take matters in to his own hands. Cant A Family start a Business in peace? Looks like they picked the wrong spot where stolen goods are hidden in side.
The film has OK Acting but are lead Sho Kosugi has a Heavy accent that may get in the way of some viewers. Me I don’t mind as Iv seen this guys films before. Acton wise I felt the film was fun and brutal at times. Ninja tricks through out along with hand to hand and sword action. Explosions fill the screen at time and at time the explosion is pretty exaggerated like a car hitting a car…Explosion. Now action wise most of the Ninja and Hand to hand stuff comes towards the end, Throughout the movie we get brutal hit and runs, crowbar beatings and a few explosions. A Tad Bit of Nudity also comes into play for those boob lovers. One more downside of the film would be if you didn’t read my comments on PQ and SQ above is that the Picture quality changes due to the added scenes that were cut out for a PG13 rating. So All the New added scenes that show the knife making contact will be in lower quality has it has not been remastered or Arrow could not find the Full master of the film.
Overall the film I felt was a good watch, its border cheesy B film dealing with a Ninja but I enjoyed the action but at times it did feel slow. If you know Sho Kosugi films then you will like it. one thing is there is not a lot of ninja dress up until the end and the film is family oriented with a plot that gives are ninja a family, wife and kids who are in the headlights of danger.
With that sad I give this film 3.5 for its action. Into Ninja films, Sho Kosugi, or if you’re a Arrow video collector go pick it up.
