Kung Fu Killer aka Kung Fu Jungle is the latest Donnie Yen Film to Hit Blu-Ray. The changing of Jungle to Killer for the US release isn’t bad and Usually I don’t like name changes but since Jungle makes no sense I’m fine with it.

The film opens up with Donnie walking in to a Jail and confessing he just killed a guy. For some reason we go 2 years forward but before hand we find out its been years thanks to some guy saying Donnie has been in jail for 2 years we go to a Ferrari flipped in its front end. The whole scene looked pretty cool with cops investigating. Of course Donnie sees this on TV while in jail and just knows whats going on. Donnie gets out to help and becomes partial detective.

Donnie’s action scenes are limited as Donnie the detective chasing down this killer who is going after top rated martial artist the Donnie Knows. Action wise its pretty good with some wire work but not a lot. I liked the whole action sequences showcases some cool moves. The film runs just a tad slow but I do like seeing Donnie Play Detective. Most action scenes are the Killer fighting the Martial artists he is hunting down to test out if he is the best or not. He did over come is disability of having a shorter leg then the other.

I wished we could get more action from Donnie yes but also more story. I would have loved to see Donnie in prison and how he manages his life in prison along with making friends and or enemy’s with cell mates but we don’t get this. Maybe a small flash back and training sequence would have been cool too. More background on both The Killer and Donnie’s Character too like how Donnie got in jail . Yes he killed some one but we don’t see it and why. Also want to point out we do get a few seconds worth of CGI that wasn’t all that great also a part during the last fight in the street when they are fighting in the street under moving trucks. On the other side of the film we get some Plot twists that may twist 360 and Donnie’s Action Scenes are pretty good. The last fight scene was pretty good and had a big Oh moment that I wasn’t expecting.

Overall the film was good watch but could have been better. I see mediocre reviews online but I don’t trust New york times when it comes to Asian films…what do they know. For me I enjoyed it. If you’re a Donnie fan you will too. You will feel a little sad Donnie isn’t fighting too much but it’s still good. Cool story and as we all know the story has been done before mostly the films set back in the day.

With that said I give this film a 4 out of 5 and I’m happy to have it on my shelf. Asian Action and Donnie Fans should pick it up. A Side Note: A Small Scene but a smile on my face. Donnie is in an Apartment Sitting on a couch facing the big window as he in deep though about whats going on but before we see that the camera pans across a wall where a TV is on and Playing Jackie Chan’s Drunken Master. More small homages at the end during credits of Old School kung fu posters.
