My Thoughts |
The golden Cane warrior is an Indonesian martial art film primarily dealing with staff fighting. The story has been done but it works for this film and was enjoyable. The action was fun and more realistic when it came to staff fighting with out the stylized moves like flipping and twirling the staff like Donatello type stuff but we do get a small amount of wire work and CGI….just a small amount. Now yes I enjoyed the film but don’t get me wrong, I have a few gripes and changes I think could make this a better viewing experience.
The story has almost every element. It has action, drama, a love story, bad guys that do bad things to make you feel anger. But only a tad bit of anger is felt as they could of made the two bad leads more brutal so you feel like you the viewer wants them dead. The sad scenes weren’t to sad like when a main charter dies half way in protecting the other, I just didn’t feel it that much. I would of left him alive for another day and have them die later from the injuries so we can get a few words from them before hand so we can feel the sadness more. One thing that this movie doesn’t have when it comes to feelings is laughter. One or two small bits of comedy could of been cool as long as it’s not over the top.
My grips besides the emotions of the film are the daughter of the bad lead pops up for one second at the end. When the hell did the two bad leads have a kid and when did seven years fly by? One other thing is the ending. The fight scene was good until the bad guy is defeated but comes out of the woods with a damn log like he can pick that up and swing it. The movie was pretty realistic in the fighting before that happened besides some of the wire work used for jumping. Other then those two things it’s a great film.
Overall the film was fun and I enjoyed it along with action. It looks great, it sounds great, minus the two gripes and add a few more intense shots of the bad guys, a comedic moment and make the sad scenes more sad the film would be about perfect. Also Work on the pacing just a tad as well. Babe a boob shot two as we almost got that. Hey I’m a Ninja and I like boobs.
With that said I give the film a 4 out of 5. I did give this film a half star more but that was before the bad leads daughter appears out of nowhere and the whole swinging a log like a stick thing hit which both things are at the ending. I say pick it up give it a view and enjoy some nice staff fighting.
