Synopsis |
THE TREATMENT is an unsettling Belgian murder mystery that gets under your skin and stays there. A nail-biting suspense yarn based on one of a series of best-selling novels by British crime writer Mo Hayder, the film is not an old-fashioned Agatha Christie-type whodunit, but its gritty themes of sexual violence and pedophilia give it a raw, contemporary intensity that places it in the same company as the GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO book and film series. Police inspector Nick Cafmeyer is investigating a case where a mother and father have been bound and beaten, and their young son is missing. An obsessive loner, Cafmeyer discovers that there are other similar cases tragedies where the parents were forced by a psychopath to harm their own children, who then vanish. For the inspector, this triggers memories of his own brother s abduction as a child, and the possibility that he may still be alive somewhere. Grim and wholly engrossing, THE TREATMENT is a thriller with an edge. Dutch language with English subtitles.- Artsploitation Films
Audio/Video |
Audio Audio Language: Dutch The Sound Quality is pretty good with no distortions on loud scenes. Dialogue is full sounding with a bassy tone. |
Picture Quality Disc Format: Blu-Ray The Picture Quality is pretty good but not as good as some. Its sharp but also smooth feeling when it comes to faces meaning sometimes pores aren’t visible until we hit a certain lite or closer up. Colors pop but not many colors as the film is more dark in tone but we do get some well-lit scenes. |

My Thoughts |
The Treatment is mystery, drama, thriller that kind of has that True Detective feel. We follow a detective while he try’s to solves a case involving a child. Which we get flashback to when he was young and he brother being taken. The crazy thing about that is the guy who took his brother is still around and drops buy this detectives house and on his birthday drops a bag full of bones in yard. Makes you think is that his brothers bones.
Throughout the film you fill like a detective as you are trying solve this crime as the film takes a break and start to follow other people that makes you go…ooo yea that guys the one, he did it. On the other side most of the kids in the film talk about a troll. No one scene a body is high in the trees and made feel like, maybe we are watching a horror film and there are trolls here, but that isn’t the case.
Overall the film was a good watch. Pretty good mystery thriller that gets you involved Sickens you at the same time. The film is also dark and gritty with the second half getting even darker and sicker. Yet it does run a tad slow, but I didn’t mind as every portion feels like we need to see to solve whats going on a Side-note: Yes Little kids are getting killed and raped but the worst part …. A dog is killed. Lol why is it that I have more sad feelings towards the dog. Maybe it’s because the sound it was making when it was getting beat to death. Also don’t ask but Piss is thrown around a lot here….The Killer is just effing sick.
With that said I give this film a 4.5 out of 5. I say pick it up check it out and don’t be afraid of Dutch language you lazy bastard and read the subtitles. Get ready for a sick and crazy ride in True Detective Style.
